2024 Volvo C40 Recharge Surges Ahead with Enhanced Range and Powertrain Upgrades

In a bold stride toward its 2030 all-electric vision, Volvo Cars has revamped its fully electric C40 Recharge model for the 2024 lineup, making significant strides in terms of range and power. The overhauled model is set to commence production soon and will hit Canadian Volvo retailers by early fall.
A noteworthy update is the introduction of a rear-wheel drive variant - a first for Volvo Car Canada. Along with ensuring Volvo's typical safety and secure driving dynamics, this variant improves the range. Additionally, the battery and motors' weight is more evenly distributed, enhancing traction for the rear wheels compared to traditional front-engine ICE vehicles.
Another significant enhancement is Volvo Cars' in-house developed second-generation permanent magnet electric motor. This drives the rear axles for the fully electric C40 and XC40 models. The Single Motor C40 Recharge features this powerful 185 kW (248 hp) motor on the rear axle and a more energy-dense 82 kWh battery pack. The combination leads to an impressive up to 477 km of range on the combined EPA test cycle (USA EPA Estimate, final certification pending).
Exterior updates, such as a new 19-inch alloy wheel design for both the C40 and XC40 Recharge, augment the models' overall aesthetics and contribute to efficiency gains through their aerodynamic design.
Javier Varela, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive at Volvo Cars, hailed these updates as a major leap towards the company's electrification goal. He stressed that these enhancements make their fully electric models more appealing, given the increasing customer focus on range and charging times.
