Apple CarPlay will Now be Available to All Volvo Vehicles with Google Built-in
August 17 2022,
Volvo has released an over-the-air update that makes Apple CarPlay available to any existing Volvo model equipped with the Google built-in infotainment system.
This update, which is available for free to every owner of compatible models, makes it possible to enjoy the convenience and the practicality of the Apple CarPlay interface directly on the center screen of the vehicle.
By connecting an iPhone with a USB cable, drivers can access their contact list, their music, and their navigation app, in addition to a number of additional features, directly from their phone in a safe manner.
Indeed, drivers are usually more familiar with their phone’s interface than with the native infotainment system, which means they are able to find the feature they are looking for quicker and thus keep their eyes on the road.
When a feature that can’t be accessed through Apple CarPlay is needed, occupants can easily switch back and forth to the Google Built-in system without having to disconnect and reconnect their phone.
Since newer Volvo vehicles are capable of receiving over-the-air updates, drivers won’t need to have their vehicle serviced for the new features to be installed.
Indeed, this technology allows the updates to be downloaded from the internet over the vehicle’s data connection, which means that it can be done quickly, wherever the car is, and without disturbing the driver’s schedule.
By offering regular over-the-air updates that add functionality and improve many of the systems, Volvo is contributing to keeping older cars on par with the new ones that roll off the factory floor for many years, which leads to drivers enjoying their vehicles for longer.
Every 2023 Volvo model is capable of receiving these updates, which means that customers can buy with confidence without worrying that a feature added to new models in a year or two could make their own vehicle outdated and less desirable.
