The Improvements made to the 2023 Volvo Lineup
July 20 2022,
Volvo made some considerable changes to its lineup for 2023 by making all of its vehicles either hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric, thus ending the 96-year-long era of the gasoline-only powered Volvo.
Standard mild-hybrid powertrains
Every 2023 Volvo model replaces its T4, T5 and T6 branded gasoline engines with new B4, B5, and B6 mild-hybrid versions of the same basic powertrains. This new technology uses the energy that is usually wasted while braking to charge a small battery that is able to power a small electric motor that assists the gasoline engine by taking on some of the load when accelerating or climbing steep grades. This makes for a more fuel-efficient solution than regular gasoline-powered vehicles while at the same time requiring no additional steps like finding a public charging station or plugging the car in at night.
An improved plug-in hybrid system
At the top of the Volvo powertrain selection is the Recharge plug-in hybrid powertrain that is available on 60 and 90-series vehicles. For 2023, this drivetrain receives a larger 18,8 kWh battery and a more powerful rear axle motor that improves the capabilities of the all-wheel drive system by producing 145 horsepower instead of 87 like the previous version. These changes have brought the total output of this system to 462 horsepower and the electric range up to 64 kilometers and no less than 58 kilometers. This allows most owners to complete their daily commutes without the help of the gasoline engine.
The addition of Google to every model
The Google built-in infotainment system that debuted last year in some models will now be standard on every 2023 Volvo. This multimedia system is integrated into the Google ecosystem, which means that it is able to control residential Google home devices and inversely, it can be controlled by these same devices. Another feature of this new infotainment system is the Google Assistant which can answer any question by looking it up on the internet and displaying the results of a Google search on the center screen.
