March 29 2024,
The compact, all-electric Volvo EX30 SUV has been named the 2024 World Urban Car, beating out a competitive field of nominees at the New York International Auto Show.
The Volvo EX30, the smallest SUV ever launched by the Swedish automaker, has been lauded for its innovative design and commitment to sustainability, cementing its position as a game-changer in urban mobility. The award recognition highlights Volvo's ambitious electrification strategy and the growing demand for electric vehicles in cities worldwide.
Praised for its compact yet powerful design, the EX30 had already garnered several prestigious accolades, including The Sun Car of the Year, the Small SUV/Crossover of the Year award from the Sunday Times, and the Eco Warrior of the Year award from Top Gear magazine, prior to its latest triumph.
“Winning this award with the EX30 is incredibly gratifying and a firm validation of our ambitious electrification strategy,” says Jim Rowan, our chief executive. “Customer response to the EX30 has exceeded our expectations, and it has proven to be a perfect car for today’s marketplace as a growing number of car buyers switch to fully electric cars. I’m convinced the EX30 will strongly contribute to our growth this year and beyond.”
The EX30 boasts three electric powertrain options, catering to diverse driving preferences. With a driving range of up to 476 kilometres and fast-charging capabilities, the EX30 is poised to lead the charge toward electric mobility. Volvo aims to sell exclusively electric cars by 2030, and the EX30 is expected to play a crucial role in this transition.
Developed with a focus on minimizing its carbon footprint across its entire lifecycle, the EX30 features zero tailpipe emissions and a high proportion of recycled materials. According to a life cycle assessment (LCA) report, the EX30 possesses the smallest carbon footprint of any fully electric Volvo car to date, with a total carbon footprint of 23 tonnes per 200,000 kilometres – approximately 60% less than the XC40 petrol model.
As Volvo continues to prioritize sustainability and technological advancements, the EX30's success serves as evidence of the company's vow to shape the future of urban transportation.
