Volvo Unveils the Fully Electric EX30: Small SUV, Big Impact
June 19 2023,
Volvo introduces its smallest SUV yet, the fully electric EX30, expanding its all-electic line-up to four models. Revealed earlier this month in Milan, Italy, the EX30 embodies Volvo's renowned safety standards and pioneering technology, all wrapped in a compact, Scandinavian design.
The EX30 stands out with its distinct exterior features - large wheels, a long wheelbase, equal overhangs, and a digital representation of Thor's Hammer headlights. It boasts five vibrant exterior colors, including Moss Yellow inspired by lichen growing on Sweden's west coast. Its design values shine not only outside but inside as well, with four distinct interior rooms, smart storage options, and a single-screen user interface.
At the heart of the EX30 are two powertrain options. The Single Motor Extended Range variant uses an NMC battery with efficient energy production and offers an estimated range of 442 km per charge. For performance enthusiasts, the Twin Motor Performance variant presents an all-wheel drive EX30. It delivers a staggering 422 hp and accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, making it Volvo’s fastest-accelerating car ever.
Additionally, Volvo ensures rapid charging with a capacity of up to 153 kW. This allows charging from 10 to 80 percent in just over 26.5 minutes. With adjustable amperage, charging level, and scheduling available via the car’s center display and app, the EX30 sets a benchmark in charging convenience.
In line with Volvo’s sustainability goals, the EX30 aims to have the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo car to date. It minimizes emissions throughout its lifecycle and uses thoughtful material selection to lower its carbon footprint to below 30 tons over 124,274 miles of driving.
The compact dimensions of the EX30 come with nimble performance and ease of driving, thanks to a finely tuned chassis, low center of gravity, and evenly distributed weight. Safety features include a 'dooring' accident prevention system, state-of-the-art restraint technology, and a cutting-edge Park Pilot Assist feature, providing effortless parking in any space.
The EX30 also offers a digital key functionality and software updates over the air to improve the car over time. Five ambient lighting themes inspired by the Scandinavian landscape provide a calming interior atmosphere.
Finally, in a nod to adventure seekers, Volvo announced a Cross Country variant of the EX30 for next year in select markets. With increased ground clearance, bespoke wheels, and unique Cross Country branding, this variant promises an exhilarating ride off the beaten path.
Small yet mighty, the Volvo EX30 is a significant addition to the electrification movement in the automotive industry, showcasing an ideal blend of safety, convenience, performance, and sustainability.
